Can HearThis turn a Spotify or YouTube share into an audio download?

No. Shared streaming URLs use official players. HearThis does not extract their streams or bypass access controls. Use your original file or a provider-authorized download where offered. Public SoundCloud playback and creator-enabled downloads remain separate.

Does previewing or converting use an AI action?

No. Direct import, local preview, supported browser conversion and download use no AI action. Audio goes to the private processing flow only when you later request AI listening.

Why does my file URL fail?

The host may require sign-in, redirect, block CORS or return a web page. Your browser may not decode its codec, or the full WAV may exceed 100 MB. Use an approved manual download and upload the original; never share passwords or access tokens with support.

What does cancelling actually stop?

It aborts the browser request and prevents stale results from opening a player. The provider or HearThis server may already have received the request; cancellation does not retract it. Short-link resolution is bounded server-side, and browser audio decoding already underway may finish before import cancellation completes.

Are imported files included in workspace backups?

No. The imported result stays in the current tab's memory. Editing the URL, clearing the result, leaving the Link tab or changing accounts removes it. Download a permitted copy first if needed. Browser and provider playback support can vary.

Hear it before replacing your source.

Official song players

Choose Open player for a supported Spotify, YouTube or public SoundCloud URL. No provider frame loads before that action. Playback availability, previews, ads and sign-in requirements belong to the provider.

Authorized direct downloads

Import an HTTPS audio or video file URL that permits browser CORS downloads. Cookies, page referrers, redirects and signed-in downloads are not used. Input and output are limited to 100 MB.

Local preview before replacement

After import, press Play in the local preview to check the result. It does not start automatically or send audio to AI. Previewing pauses workspace playback and closes the shared player.

Original audio or PCM WAV

Keep original audio preserves the downloaded audio file. Convert to WAV uses browser decoding and creates mono/stereo 16-bit PCM at 44.1 kHz when supported. It cannot restore lost quality or bypass protected streams.

Cancel and clear controls

Cancel opening stops the pending browser short-link request and ignores late results. A hung opening resets after 12 seconds. Clear removes an imported result and its preview/download URL; it does not delete downloads or audio already loaded into the workspace.

An explicit next step

Download creates a device copy only when you choose it. Use in workspace explicitly replaces the loaded source and resets its active report, questions and comparison; saved history stays available. A later AI action follows existing account rules.

WORKFLOW

Choose the right path for your link.

Open the audio workspace and choose Link.

For a shared song URL, choose Open player. For a direct authorized file URL, choose Keep original audio or Convert to WAV.

Press Play to review an imported result locally. Clear it if it is not the file you need, or download a copy.

Choose Use in workspace only when ready to replace the loaded source. Then explicitly request Analyze, Ask Audio or comparison if useful.
